Larrybrownsports.com has just learned that Buccaneers safety Tanard Jackson is done for the season after violating the league’s policy on substance abuse. In fact, as a repeat violator who already was suspended four games last season, Jackson has been suspended indefinitely without pay. He’ll be eligible for reinstatement a year from today.
Jackson is a good safety so his loss will hurt Tampa Bay, especially considering how much their defense has improved since last year. So what was the cause of the suspension, or rather, what was he doing that violated the substance abuse policy? Nick Wright of 610 Sports in Kansas City explained on twitter, “For those that think marijuana isn’t addicting, I refer you to Tanard Jackson… He’s my friend, but has had a problem with weed for years.”
We joked that it would be Cheech & Chong time for NFL players after the year once the CBA expired because they would no longer be subjected to drug testing. It’s sad that someone couldn’t lay off the stuff despite knowing he would be tested and that it would knock him out for the year if he were caught. Truly sad.
