Taulia Tagovailoa has been unable to convince an NFL team to sign him, so the former Maryland quarterback is changing his career path.
The CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced on Monday that they have signed Tagovailoa to their practice roster. The 2024 CFL season is already underway, with the Tiger-Cats having lost 32-24 to the Calgary Stampeders in their first game of the year last week.
Tagovailoa, the younger brother of Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, went undrafted this year after spending the last four seasons at Maryland. He began his college career at Alabama, where he sat behind Tua before transferring.
The 24-year-old Taulia threw for 3,377 yards, 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions last season with the Terrapins. He also rushed for 5 touchdowns.
Tagovailoa worked out for two NFL teams this offseason, but he did not receive an invite to minicamp. If he eventually earns playing time in the CFL and plays well, there might be another chance for him to sign with an NFL team down the road.
