Giants’ Corey Webster Says He’s the Best Cornerback in the NFL

As Super Bowl 46 approaches, confidence seems to be building for at least one team.  As we all know, it is not the Patriot way to boast about accomplishments or trash talk in any way.  The Giants, however, have started to chat a bit.  Cornerback Corey Webster does not seem overly concerned about the vaunted Patriots passing attack, mainly because he believes he is the best corner in the NFL.

“I realize it. That’s all that counts, is me,” Webster said Friday according to the NY Daily News. “And as long as my teammates (think that), that’s all that matters. I think I’m great. I think I’m the best thing out there. I don’t think I’m second to nobody.”

Webster said the rest of the Giants’ defensive backs agree with him, and that as long as he keeps playing the way he has been the Darrelle Revis-like praise will come. He also said New York will work to throw off the timing between Tom Brady and his receivers to keep them out of rhythm.

“I don’t know if it’s that (Wes) Welker is the challenge, or he has a great person throwing him the ball,” Webster said. “Kind of throwing off the timing between the quarterback and the receivers, I think, will help us a lot.”

The Giants were certainly able to stop the Patriots’ passing attack in 2008, and it may have been better then.  As we know, all bets are off when it comes to the Super Bowl.  The Giants’ secondary has received a lot of criticism this season, and for good reason.  Despite that, they still feel as though they cannot be beaten.  That attitude has taken them all the way to Indianapolis, so you can’t blame them for sticking to it.
