Report: Ben Roethlisberger practicing, wants to play against Cardinals

Ben Roethlisberger injury

Ben Roethlisberger went down with what appeared to be a very serious knee injury in his team’s Week 3 win over the St. Louis Rams. Fortunately for Pittsburgh Steelers fans, it may not have been severe enough to even force Roethlisberger out of action for a full month.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that Roethlisberger is planning to participate in 7-on-7 drills at practice this week and is hoping he can play against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. However, it will be up to team doctors and head coach Mike Tomlin to determine if Big Ben — who is one of the tougher players in the NFL — is ready to go.

If Roethlisberger is given a choice, he is going to play. Initial reports indicated that he was dealing with a sprained MCL and a bone bruise that could force him to miss six weeks or more. A former NFL team doctor speculated that Roethlisberger would return sooner than expected, but how soon is too soon?

The Steelers have gone 1-1 in the two games Michael Vick has started, with the first loss coming in overtime. They were almost cheated by a mysterious clock error in Monday night’s win over the San Diego Chargers.

It seems like a longshot for Big Ben to play this weekend, but he is obviously nearing a return. That’s great news for Pittsburgh.
