Superfan fight! Dolphins fan ‘Big Papa Pump’ goes off on ‘Fireman Ed’

Former New York Jets superfan Ed Anzalone, aka “Fireman Ed,” is not the only notorious supporter of his favorite NFL team. The Miami Dolphins have a noteworthy nut job as well, and he goes by the name “Big Papa Pump.”

Big Papa Pump, who has been a Dolphins season ticket holder for 17 years, went off on Ed for quitting on the Jets during an appearance on Sports Talk: The Ticket on Tuesday morning.

“If you’re stepping down because of what you see, getting your butt whupped week-in and week-out and you haven’t been to the Super Bowl since Super Bowl III, that is a wuss,”  he told Hochman and Zaslow according to ESPNNewYork.com. “You don’t back out of your team like that. That’s something you don’t do. You don’t step down from being a superfan. You don’t do that. Fireman Ed, you’re a disgrace, man.

“This team is looking up to him and this is what he’s telling them? You quit? You just give up? If you’re winning and you quit, it’s another thing. But you’re losing and you quit, that’s even worse.”

As you may have heard, Fireman Ed said he stepped down because of the increase in confrontations that he has had to deal with during this disappointing Jets season. Not only does BPP believe Ed is a disgrace for jumping ship, he also doesn’t believe he would ever be welcomed back after the way he left.

“You can’t come back,” he said. “You have to come back as somebody else. Maybe he can be Nurse Ed. He can’t come back as Fireman Ed, there’s no way. You can’t welcome him back. How can you trust him?”

Are these guys living in their own world or what? I don’t know about you, but I’m thinking superfan charity boxing match at either SunLife Stadium or The Meadowlands.

BPP is obviously upset with Fireman Ed, and obviously didnt read the reason he quit. WE all know it is because he was sick of fans being confrontational, and the atmosphere in the stadium getting toxic. BPP (whom is just sad because noone knows who he is) seems to think Ed quit because the team stinks. If he would have read the letter from Ed, he would have been able to come from a place that wasnt ignorant. I think it’s classless for BPP to try to garner some notoriety off of Ed’s obviously difficult decision. Classless, indeed.

Dusty, I don’t have a dog in this fight but BPP does say ” the increase in confrontations that he has had to deal with during this disappointing Jets season.”  The fact of the matter is, anytime a team you support is losing there will be confrontations.  If the Jets ever start winning the confrontations will stop!!!

Maybe BPP should change his moniker to LPB – little peanut brain. If Fireman Ed is tired of fan confrontations only he has the right to retire or continue as he sees fit – without a classless goat trying to get his 15 minutes of fame.

i agree this guy is a disgrace. the fact is the last 15 years while not winning a SB, the jets have been very competitive. become a fan of the lions for a few seasons and see what a putrid team is really about. 1 playoff win in almost 60 seasons. your a disgrace Ed.

    All I can say is… “ED, be 4’real dude, i mean confrontations-sticks & stones whatever…..
Ive been a diehard Jets maniac since the 80’s, dont mind a little razzing in the least, no $$$ on the line for me, but they put you in the limelight and you do this in public dude ??! , they’re right, you dont deserve a hero’s welcome home at all !!!  HEY,  JET-MAN YOU”RE UP !!!

Read it again, Dusty. That’s the what writer said Fireman Ed gave as his reason for stepping down, not what BPP said — notice the lack of quotation marks around it in the story.
