Montee Ball released by Patriots, won’t be charged for felony

Montee Ball

Montee Ball was released by the New England Patriots on Tuesday, according to the league’s official transactions. The move comes a few days after the running back was arrested for allegedly battering his girlfriend.

Ball was charged Monday with a misdemeanor for disorderly conduct for his argument with his girlfriend at a hotel on Friday. She alleges Ball picked her up and threw her onto a table at a hotel. He also was charged with battery for allegedly striking her in the face in a previous incident.

Ball was a second-round pick by the Broncos in 2013, but he was released by the team prior to the 2015 season. The Patriots had picked him up and signed him to their practice squad, but he did not see any game action.

His disappointing NFL career may be close to over.
