Robert Griffin III says he thinks about competing in the Olympics

Most people are well aware of what a tremendous athlete Robert Griffin III is. If you watched any of the Baylor games over the past couple of years, you know that Griffin has an extremely rare combination of arm strength, speed and football IQ. What you may not know, however, is that he also happens to be a track star in the 400-meter hurdles. If RG3 wasn’t busy preparing to begin his NFL career with the Redskins, he would have a shot at qualifying for the London Olympics. According to the NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, that is something that has crossed Griffin’s mind.

The US Olympic track & field trials were going on last night, featuring (Griffin’s) event, the 400-meter hurdles. RGIII couldn’t ignore it, especially considering that he has beaten a bunch of guys who tried to win Olympic spots last night. On a whim, I asked the former Baylor track star if he ever wondered… what if? He said he did. He loves football. No doubt that’s his priority. But he sounded like a guy who wanted one more challenge.

“If I wake up one day and it’s 2016 and I say I want to go run the hurdles again,” Griffin said, smiling like crazy while his people nearly had a heart attack, “I can do that.”

The Redskins are hoping that is not the case. If Griffin wakes up four years from now and decides he wants to try out for the Olympics, that probably means his NFL career didn’t pan out. Based on some of the things his teammates have said about him already, I’m guessing RG3 has more than a four-year career ahead of him. If he wasn’t the real deal, would Kim Kardashian be showing interest in him?
