Charles Barkley: I wish I could put some of my blackness in Tiger Woods

Earlier this week, golf legend Greg Norman said he believes one of Tiger Woods’ problems with not being able to close out big tournaments is that he is intimidated by Rory McIlroy. Tiger reacted the way you might expect — by making a joke about it and saying that you don’t have to be afraid of a guy like Ray Lewis popping you in golf because it’s an individual sport. Charles Barkley wasn’t satisfied with that response, so naturally he had something to say about it.

“I would like for him to just blast Greg Norman,” Barkley said on ESPN Chicago’s Waddle and Silvy Show Thursday. “That situation gave everybody a chance to dump on you, and (Tiger) still tried to take the high road. I’m not a high road guy. I want him to come out and really blast Greg Norman. I wish he would go ballistic on Greg … I wish I could put some of my blackness in him … like toughness … (I’ve been) arrested eight times for fighting … just because I’m Charles Barkley, you can’t disrespect me … you just can’t say anything to me anytime you want to …”

Tough guy alert. Barkley loves talking smack and saying things that get him into trouble, so it’s no surprise he would have taken the opportunity to rip Norman and possibly even fight him. Tiger, on the other hand, treads more lightly than ever now that he is still in the process of trying to repair his image.

As far as “blackness” and “toughness” being used interchangeably, it’s probably best not to get into a ethical debate. We’ll just chalk it up to yet another instance of Charles being Charles.

Charles is a racist egomaniac with a drinking problem and a sense of entitlement.  No one in the media has the balls to really hammer him.   They think he’s cute.  Blowhard.

I’ve gotten on his case before, but like you said, people give him a pass. Now I just think most of his stuff is funny.

  • alistz

If Charles had a championship maybe T. Woods and G. Norman might give a crap about what he thinks.

  • ephemera59

Way off base Sir Charles, perpetuating stereotypes.  Turrible! Just Turrible!

Maybe in exchange Tiger Woods can give Barkley some of his integrity.

So if I said I would give him some of my “Whiteness” I’d be a racist. What a horrible thing to say, but charlie the tuna can be racist as hell and it’s funny. I’m so tired of this pathetic political correctness that allows ignorance to be crowned as acceptable. Hey barky you are an ignorant punk with money and a mouth.

I bet Barkley was a bully on the short bus, he rode to school everyday.
That’s how he gets by with it.

I wonder if his blackness (his word not mine) includes advice on drinking and gambling problems.

ESPN should be ashamed that they’ve hired such a racist.

Race is sadly is STILL an issue in our country. When we get over ourselves! Btw why do we care what Greg Norman thinks about Tiger, what Tiger thinks of Greg and what Charles thinks (??)  about anything.

Tiger Woods’ personal failures were extreme, sad, public (how would you like that) and surprisingly stupid for a very intelligent Stanford educated guy.  They are also none of my business just because they are all over the media. I know he makes lots of money, he is famous and publicity good or bad and lack of privacy are givens. Thats where the STOOOPID comes in. (Mr Romney????)  What I think about him as a person does not change how I view him an athlete or entertainer. I love music there are many    musicians that I dont care for personally but I like their music, repsect their talent and listen to them. But personal choices are just that and becasue it is on the internet does not make it my business (or true/accurate for that matter) nor does it give me the right to judge. Tiger Woods plays the Game of Golf, with spirit, passion and integrity.  I know nothing with a few exceptions, of my co workers deepest darkest secrets and I have  no right too. The only thing I have the right to know is what affects their job and my companys results. I have the right to expect them to come in tomorrow and work hard like they did today. You only have the” right” to expect Tiger to tee it up on Thursday and bust his tail to win it Sunday. How he chooses to live outside of the ropes  is between him  and his family  not you not me…… “judge not lest ye be judged”.

  • FreddieJenkins

I totally agree with you, but integrity is what it is or lack there of. I am saying that he has none outside of the game of golf. I am a fan of tiger and his golfing accomplishments. but that I would never use the integrity in my description of him. His dark secrets did come out.

we care because we are infatuated with movie and athletic stars and they make millions of dollars off us.
