John Daly went Tin Cup at the Australian Open Thursday, hitting seven balls into the water before walking off the course after running out of balls. The meltdown was similar to Daly’s experience at Bay Hill in 1998 when he hit six balls into the water and took an 18 on the sixth hole. Daly was on the 11th hole Thursday and was already seven over par through 10 holes. A fan in the gallery took a video of Daly and posted it to YouTube. This was Daly after hitting his last ball into the water:
Daly has been invited to golf tournaments on exemptions from sponsors for quite some time, but you have to wonder why they even bother. Then again, people love John Daly for his meltdowns like this one, so maybe this is exactly what they want.
Daly won’t be allowed to play in the Australian PGA Championship after his antics at the Open.
