UFC fan Abel Simmons uses guillotine choke to fight off carjacker

Abel-Simmons-carjackerPaying $60 to watch a UFC event on a Saturday night may seem excessive, but it could help protect your family. A 29-year-old California man named Abel Simmons proved that to be the case when he fought off a carjacker late Saturday night after arriving home from watching UFC 160 with his family.

According to ABC News 10 in California, Simmons was sitting in the passenger seat of his SUV with his wife driving and two children in the back seat when a man starting banging on the windows and trying to open one of the rear doors. Simmons jumped out of the car to confront the man while his wife called 911. He immediately used his knowledge of mixed martial arts to try to subdue the carjacker.

“I snatched his legs and took him down,” Simmons explained. “I just put him in like an arm bar, and he slipped right out of it. Then I got him into a rear naked choke and he kind of started rolling and squirming around and he actually got out of that one as well.”

Simmons then pulled a rabbit out of his hat and slapped a guillotine on the attacker, which proved to be more effective.

“I had him in a guillotine choke and he was not getting out of that,” Simmons said while demonstrating the move on his neighbor. “I had that locked in pretty tight. I just held him in place and said, ‘Well, guess you are going to jail tonight buddy.'”

The carjacker was arrested when police arrived, but not before trying to fight the officers as well. For all we know, being a UFC fan may have saved Simmons and his family. Like the mugger who tried to rob an MMA fighter and ended up with his face looking like this could tell you, criminals can never be sure who they’re about to mess with.
