As if Clayton Kershaw isn’t already nearly unhittable, he’s incorporating a changeup into his repertoire to give batters something else to think about. That said, what Tyler Flowers saw on Thursday had to be the furthest thing from his mind.
In the fourth inning, Kershaw started out the at-bat with a pitch that seemed to take forever to get to home plate.

As Jon Weisman of the Dodgers shows, Kershaw’s eephus pitch was clocked at a mere 46 mph.

How’s that for changing speeds? One thing is for sure, The 84 mph pitch that followed had to look a whole lot faster than that.
A couple of years ago, Yu Darvish struck out Adam LaRoche on a pitch almost as slow. Darvish certainly deserves props for recording the strikeout with his, but you don’t see 46 mph pitches everyday, strikes or not.
