George Springer hits longest home run by Astro to left at Minute Maid Park (Video)
George Springer has been crushing the ball for the Astros since being called up by the team in mid-April, and he’s already making his mark as a premier power hitter in the game.
Springer unloaded on a 2-0 fastball from Taijuan Walker Monday for a 2-run home run in the first inning of Houston’s game with Seattle. The 24-year-old outfielder just destroyed it to deep left field, and the sound off the bat was booming. The homer was Springer’s 16th of the year and it was measured at 445 feet according to the Houston Chronicle’s Evan Drellich. Drellich also notes that the homer was the longest ever to left field at Minute Maid Park by an Astros player.
Springer has gone golden sombrero three times this season and already has struck out 93 times in just 64 games, so it’s not time to crown him yet, but he does have the look of a dangerous power hitter. Maybe he’ll be an Adam Dunn type of player who strikes out a lot, has a low average, but can hit some towering blasts. This one off Walker sure falls into that category. Wow.
