Ian Stewart misses game after being hit in nose by daughter

Ian-Stewart-CubsAfter spending 2013 in the minor leagues, Ian Stewart is attempting to earn a place on the major league roster of the Los Angeles Angels this spring.

Looking to revive his career, Stewart spent time during the offseason working with Hall of Famer Rod Carew on his swing. Last year, Stewart hit just .171 in 67 games at the Triple-A level. The previous season he posted a .201 average in 55 games with the Chicago Cubs.

Stewart has the opportunity over the next few weeks to show improvement at the plate and earn a backup infield position with the Angels. Unfortunately, he was unable to apply what he’s learned in a game setting on Monday.

Scheduled to start at first base, Stewart was removed from the lineup to have his nose examined. The reason? He was hit there by his daughter.

If you’re keeping track of this year’s odd spring training injuries, this can be placed alongside the one suffered by Jake Peavy as a result of a fishing knife accident.
