Juan Soto set to meet with rival team in free agency
Juan Soto is set to meet with a rival team in free agency.
Soto has begun meeting with teams in free agency. MLB.com reporter Mark Feinsand reported that Soto was set to meet with representatives from the New York Yankees on Monday. Feinsand also reported that Soto was set to meet with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday.
The Dodgers are a rival team for Soto considering he spent a season and a half with the Padres, and then got traded to the Yankees, who lost to the Dodgers in the World Series. But as people might now note, Soto is a free agent, no longer has allegiances to teams, and is chasing top dollar.
As the defending World Series champions, the Dodgers certainly could promise Soto the best chance to be part of a title team. Could they offer him the most money? That’s a different story.
The Dodgers made several large financial commitments last offseason, signing Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Tyler Glasnow to deals that totaled over $1 billion. They might hesitate to offer the $500-$600 million Soto could be seeking. It’s possible that the Yankees and/or New York Mets might just be a little more desperate for help and willing to pay Soto a crazy amount.
