A woman was arrested for allegedly setting numerous small fires around Kauffman Stadium, the home of the Kansas City Royals.
36-year-old Bridget L. DePriest was arrested shortly after 5 a.m. after a security guard found her on the field with a flashlight, with trash and a trash bag on the field, according to Robert A. Kronkleton and Pete Grathoff of the Kansas City Star. In the places where debris had been, singe marks indicated that three small fires had been set on the grass.
The woman claimed she had been in the park since 8 a.m. the previous morning, but investigators doubt that.
“There’s no indication that she was in the building for as long as she supposedly told police,” Royals vice president of publicity Toby Cook said. “The only time we have seen her on surveillance video has been after dark.
“The damage to the field was so minimal that you can’t see it. It ended up being two or three singe marks that you can’t see from the stands.”
Fan arrests aren’t super rare. Arrests for sneaking into a vacant stadium and setting things on fire? Definitely rare.
