Carmelo Anthony thinks the New York Knicks had more of a shot at signing Dwyane Wade than people realize.
Anthony told Frank Isola of the New York Daily News on Wednesday that the organization didn’t want to miss out on other free agents while waiting for Wade to make a decision, but they were very much in the running.
“There was a chance,” Anthony said. “There was definitely a chance. We would have had to pull a rabbit out of the hat in the 25th hour. But there was a chance. I think if it was maybe two days earlier we probably would have had D-Wade.”
Wade ended up going to his hometown Chicago Bulls. There was definitely some sentimentality in the decision, and it was reported that the Knicks weren’t really a factor in negotiations. Maybe Anthony knows something that source didn’t, or perhaps Anthony was misled on how much Wade was actually considering the Big Apple.
