Report: Memphis’s Dave Joerger already on hot seat

Memphis Grizzlies head coach Dave Joerger is already in danger of losing his job, according to a new report.

Joerger, who is just starting his third season at the helm of the Grizzlies, is already seeing his position under threat following the team’s 3-3 start, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein. The problems run deep, with a series of embarrassing defeats, tension between the coach and front office, and a coach and an owner who don’t see eye-to-eye.

Memphis’s three losses have been by 30, 50, and 19, with guard Mike Conley admitting that the team isn’t on the same page defensively. Joerger has also voiced his concerns about the team looking too old, which is perceived as a critique of recent moves by the team’s front office. Owner Robert Pera, meanwhile, is not pleased with the team’s play, has previously questioned Joerger’s leadership skills, and wants to see Jordan Adams given an opportunity. Pera is also said to be a fan of Tom Thibodeau, and may look to move for him before someone else does.

The season is only six games in, but a restless owner is always something to be wary of, and it appears that there’s a lot of organizational controversy that Joerger finds himself at the center of. Things have been so embarrassing for the Grizzlies that they’re being trolled by the Clippers Twitter account out of nowhere. Time will tell if Memphis’s results improve and, if not, how cutthroat Pera proves to be.
