The Golden State Warriors once again found a way to land one of the biggest free agents on the market this offseason, and the reaction from fans was exactly what you’d expect. DeMarcus Cousins loved every second of it.
Cousins insists he had no other offers aside from the one-year offer he got from Golden State, but that hasn’t stopped fans from accusing him of chasing an easy championship. In a preview for a Showtime documentary about his journey back from a torn Achilles, Cousins spoke about all the backlash he has received.
“I knew how it would be perceived from some,” Cousins said. “I don’t give a f—. I’m sad now because I see the reactions, but I didn’t give a f—. I knew what my ace was and made the call. There’s some motherf—ers out there that are probably ripping their hair out, and I love it.”

While he says he received “no offers,” Cousins acknowledged that he could have signed a bigger contract with a bad team. That seems a bit contradictory, but you can’t blame him for wanting to win.
Cousins is not going to be ready for the start of the season, and some teams simply didn’t want to risk signing a big man who is coming off an injury that can end careers. There were also some rumblings that he wasn’t getting along with a certain superstar teammate last year. If Cousins can prove he’s healthy and put up numbers with the Warriors, his decision will be worth all the criticism that came along with it.
