NBA players are more like us than we realize, give or take a few inches in height.
Portland Trail Blazers rookie Hansen Yang was arguably the biggest draft riser in Wednesday’s 2025 NBA Draft. The 7’1″ Chinese national exceeded expectations at last month’s NBA draft combine, which led to him getting selected 16th overall by the Memphis Grizzlies. The Blazers later acquired Yang’s draft rights.
After his introductory press conference, Yang saw his popularity shoot up just as high as his draft stock. The 20-year-old was asked via a translator about what his interests are outside of basketball.
“Sometimes, I sleep,” Yang said before letting out a hearty laugh. “All [the] time sleep. I like [to] play PS5. I like [to] eat.”

Yang, a member of the Chinese men’s national team, has obviously put in a lot of effort on the basketball court. But outside of the hardwood, Hansen sounds like every average Joe once they clock out from work. His answer resonated well with fans on social media.
Man of the people

Basically, a typical 20-year-old. Heck, I do that at 40.🤣😂

Some even compared Yang to a certain Serbian player with three MVP awards in his trophy case.
“I like to eat” oh yeah he’s the next Jokic for sure

He really is Chinese Jokic he just happens to be good at basketball😭

The Jokic resemblance isn’t just from Yang’s seemingly laid-back personality. Hansen drew rave reviews at the combine due to his advanced passing ability at the center position.

While Yang’s fan base is already growing, he will need to put in a lot of work to deserve the Jokic comparisons in the NBA.
