Klay Thompson hoping Cavaliers follow through with plan to up tempo in Game Two
Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue wants to push the pace and play at a higher tempo during Game Two of the NBA Finals, and that would be just fine with the Golden State Warriors.
“[The Warriors] make you stagnant and make you play one-on-one basketball because that’s all you can get,” Lue said, via Chris Haynes of Cleveland.com. “So if we pick up the pace and play with a faster tempo offensively, I think we’ll be fine.”
Warriors players feel that gameplan would play right into their hands.
“If they want to pick up the pace, that’s great,” guard Klay Thompson said. “I think we’re the best transition team in the league. So, I think it would be perfect for us.
“Last year, I think they had success against us when they slowed the game down, but they have more bodies this year. So, you never know. It might work. But at the same time, I think it could play into our hands. So we’ll see.”
Lue’s gameplan is certainly risky, but it’s also largely how the Cavaliers got where they are in the first place. They may have compromised too much in Game One, and they are making a few adjustments for Sunday night that they hope will correct some of the issues they had in the series opener.
