Steve Kerr: Draymond Green halftime rant was unusual

Draymond Green

Steve Kerr confirmed that Draymond Green went on a rant in the Golden State Warriors’ locker room at halftime of the team’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday.

After the Warriors beat the Thunder 121-118 in overtime, Kerr was asked about Green’s rant and said it was unusual.

“Very unusual. Very unusual. That’s all I’m going to say about it because it’s our private business,” Kerr said. “You guys can write whatever you want, but I’m not going to comment on that anymore.”

Early in the third quarter of the game, ESPN’s Lisa Salters reported that someone in the Warriors’ locker room went on a “profanity-laced tirade” and that all indications were it was Green.

“I am not a robot, I know I can play. You have me messed up right now. If you don’t want me to shoot, I won’t shoot the rest of the game,” Salters quoted the person as ranting in the locker room.

Salters also said it sounded like people were trying to get Green to sit down and he was daring people and threatening people to try to get him to sit down. You can listen to her report here:

Green was 0-for-4 at that point in the game. He was asked after the contest what happened at halftime but refused to divulge much.

“What goes on in here stays in here,” Green said. “(I’ve) clearly never been a guy who cares a lot about shots. I pass up shots, open shots. But we know what goes on between our team. We know what sparks this team. We know what this team do, but what goes on in this locker room stays home.”

Green is known for being a selfless player who shares the ball, which is what makes the rant so unusual. With his team down by 11 at halftime, it’s clear he was frustrated. It’s just not often the public hears such things. However, this is now the second time this year Green has done something selfish. The first was this whole situation that happened in Philly last month.
