There’s a first time for everything and fans watching the Jackson State versus Kentucky game on Friday night were witness to a never-before-seen moment.
Midway through the first half, Tigers forward Dylan Canoville lost his shoe and attempted to chase down a play with it in his hand. But with no shot at catching Wildcats forward Brandon Garrison, he decided to improvise.
Canoville determined that his best chance at stopping an easy dunk was to rear back and fire his shoe at Garrison, which failed and then drew a whistle.

“Canoville without a shoe and Garrison able to take advantage,” the play-by-play announcer said while his partner laughed.
A confused Garrison looked around wondering what had hit him. It took him a moment to realize exactly what had occurred.
For reasons that remain unclear, referees opted against calling a foul on Canoville but did allow a clock stoppage so he could retrieve his shoe and put it back on.
Kentucky (5-0) ultimately cruised to a 108-59 victory over Jackson State (0-6). Garrison finished with six points, eight rebounds, six assists, three steals, and three blocks. Canoville, meanwhile, ended the game with seven points, six rebounds, two steals, and one shoe.
