John Calipari wants to coach at Kentucky for the rest of his career
Sorry, NBA suitors. John Calipari seems pretty content at Kentucky.
Coach Cal said in a lengthy blog post on his website on Monday that he intends to make Kentucky the last stop of his coaching career.
“My plan is to coach here for the rest of my career,” Calipari wrote. “I want this to be my final coaching position.”
It was part of a lengthy post detailing his ambitious vision for the program, which includes the goals of topping UCLA’s 11 titles and eventually having half of the players in the NBA All-Star Game come from Kentucky. Calipari doesn’t put a timeline on things, but he doesn’t make it sound like he wants to go anywhere else.
Calipari’s name comes up pretty much every time an NBA job opens up, and he was apparently on this team’s list this offseason. However, he’d want a huge salary and full control if he were to leave for the NBA – in short, an offer that would blow him away. Even that might not be enough now that his son will be playing at Kentucky. The links won’t stop, but Cal seems settled in for the long haul.
