Jim Harbaugh has taken his Michigan Wolverines to Europe for a team building and culturally enriching trip. The experience has been so positive that he would like to do something similar next year.
Harbaugh, whose team is in Rome, told MLive.com’s Nick Baumgardner that he wants to go to South Africa or Brazil next year.
“We’ll get together as a team and decide, but I’d really like to go to Cape Town or Johannesburg,” he said. “One of those two.”
Harbaugh has been a pioneer in many aspects since returning to the college game. He made a lot of noise for setting up satellite camps around the country, which rubbed opposing programs the wrong way. He took his team to Florida for spring break last year. And this year he took them abroad.
Harbaugh wants to keep doing similar trips and hopes other programs follow suit.
So much of what Harbaugh does is different from the norm, so it probably shouldn’t also shock you that he’s giving his players the entire month of May off. They’ll have the chance to get jobs or internships during that time, or just study without worrying about football.
You know Harbaugh keeps his focus on the game when they’re in season, but when they’re not, he’s trying to give his players a full college experience.
