Report: John Harbaugh not interested in Michigan job

john-harbaughMichigan is expected to have a head coaching vacancy within its football program in the near future, as the Wolverines are off to a terrible start this season and Brady Hoke has found himself in the middle of a controversy. There have been reports about Michigan having potential interest in both John and Jim Harbaugh, but the interest is apparently not mutual with at least one of the Harbaugh brothers.

According to Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun, there are “multiple reasons” why John Harbaugh would not be interested in the Michigan job, one of them being that he is close friends with Hoke.

In addition, Harbaugh’s Ravens are 3-1 on the season and just two years removed from winning a Super Bowl. Some feel that he would be inclined to leave Baltimore in the wake of the Ray Rice scandal, but Harbaugh has firmly denied that he had any disagreement with the Ravens’ front office over whether Rice should be released after footage of him hitting his wife and knocking her unconscious surfaced.

Harbaugh has a contract with the Ravens that runs through 2017 and is one of the highest paid coaches in the NFL with an average annual salary of $6.5 million.

While Jim Harbaugh was a star quarterback and Heisman Trophy finalist at Michigan in the 1980s, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Sunday that Michigan would prefer John to Jim. John also has ties to the Ann Arbor area, as he went to high school there while his father was on the Michigan staff.
