Nick Saban had a rough time Saturday picking between the Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs, and with good reason.
As is custom on ESPN’s “College GameDay,” Saban was tasked with making a pick for Saturday’s big SEC showdown in Athens, Ga. One might have expected Saban to simply pick the Crimson Tide, but he had some other factors to consider.
“We have a home in Georgia, we have a home in Alabama. I would like to not pick this game because I would like for neither one of those homes to get vandalized,” Saban joked.
Ultimately, Saban did opt to pick Alabama, thus putting his Georgia home at risk.
Saban does not really enjoy picking games, in part because he occasionally has to let his head rule his heart. He certainly wants Alabama to do well, and has even tried to use his picks to motivate them. Of course, Georgia coach Kirby Smart is a former Saban assistant, and Saban has not shied away from offering the Bulldogs some counsel as well.
The Tide have won nine of their last ten games against Georgia, though the one loss came in the 2022 national championship game. The Bulldogs are favored this time, and will be looking to guard against an upset.
