
At the moment, USC quarterback Sam Darnold has better things to worry about than his Heisman Trophy candidacy.
Darnold and the Trojan offense struggled to get going before ultimately defeating Western Michigan 49-31 on Saturday. The sophomore quarterback, a preseason Heisman favorite, went 23-33 for 289 yards, but threw two interceptions and failed to connect for a touchdown.
He’s not worrying about that as it relates to the Heisman, though.

Darnold is taking the long-term view, as he should. If he picks up his game and plays to his potential, he’ll still have every chance to win the award. It’s probably secondary to him anyway — the quarterback has made it quite clear where his real ambitions lie for 2017.
