Aaron Hernandez has hired a new high-profile defense team, and the former NFL tight end reportedly believes he still has a shot at being exonerated.
Hernandez has hired Jose Baez, who represented Casey Anthony when she was found not guilty of murder in the death of her 2-year-old daughter, to head up his new legal team. The team will also include Alex Spiro, who is currently representing Thabo Sefolosha in the Atlanta Hawks forward’s lawsuit against the New York Police Department.
ESPN’s Michele Steele reports that it was Hernandez’s idea to reach out to a new defense team, and the 26-year-old still thinks he can be exonerated.

Hernandez has already been sentenced to life in prison without parole after he was found guilty of murdering Odin Lloyd in June 2013. His former defense team filed an appeal in that case last month after a 2015 application for appeal was denied. Hernandez is also awaiting trial for a 2012 double-murder that took place in Boston.
As if that wasn’t enough legal trouble, Hernandez also recently settled a lawsuit for allegedly shooting a former friend in the face.
As many of you know, Anthony was found not guilty in 2011 of murder in the 2008 death of her daughter. Anthony claimed the little girl accidentally drowned in the family’s pool.
We know by some of the letters he has written from prison that Hernandez has maintained his innocence. His chances of getting out of jail are very slim, but that isn’t stopping him from hiring the best people for the job.
