Adolphus Washington found not guilty on gun charge
Buffalo Bills defensive lineman Adolphus Washington was found not guilty on Monday on a misdemeanor charge of improperly carrying a firearm.
Washington was arrested on July 9 as police were clearing out a party at a Cincinnati-area water park. A police report stated that he “reached for and displayed a gun while sitting inside his vehicle.” A video of the arrest that was released by TMZ showed an officer lecturing Washington about how fortunate he is that he didn’t get shot.
Clyde Bennett, an attorney for Washington, said after the incident that he believed the charge was inappropriate since his client was not stopped by the police, according to Mike Rodak of ESPN.com.
The NFL has not announced any discipline against Washington, though the league could still impose sanctions if an independent investigation is conducted.
Washington, a third-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, started 11 games for the Bills last season and recorded 21 tackles and 2.5 sacks.
