Report: Andrew Luck likely out at least another month

Andrew Luck

Andrew Luck took an important step forward in his recovery from shoulder surgery this week when he returned to practice, but the Indianapolis Colts quarterback still has a long way to go before he can return to game action.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that the Colts are “very hopeful” that Luck will be back at some point during the second half of the season. The plan is to have him continue to rehab through October and not rush anything along.

When Luck underwent surgery during the offseason, Colts owner Jim Irsay expressed optimism that the star quarterback would be ready for Week 1. That was obviously unrealistic, and the team has no intention of getting Luck back on the field before he is 100 percent healthy. The 28-year-old played hurt in 2016 and appeared in only seven games the season before.

A recent report we heard about when Luck might be back was obviously too optimistic. The 1-3 Colts have very little chance of reaching the postseason, so there’s no reason to take any chances with their franchise quarterback’s health.
