Report sheds light on Brian Daboll’s job status with Giants

The New York Giants have gone in the wrong direction in Brian Daboll’s third season, and the coach could very well join some of his peers on the hot seat over the next several games.

According to Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports, there is a growing sense that Daboll will be coaching for his job in the coming weeks. That apparently factored into the coach’s decision to bench Daniel Jones and name Tommy DeVito the starter rather than Drew Lock, as Daboll feels DeVito gives the Giants their best chance to win.

Schultz also noted that there has been some tension between Daboll and the Giants’ front office dating back to the offseason, when the team publicly explored options for upgrading at quarterback.

The Giants have been very quick to fire head coaches in recent years. There was talk earlier this season that owner John Mara wants to change that trend and still believes in Daboll. Though, that was after a 2-5 start. New York has not won a game since and is 2-8 coming out of their bye.

Daboll led the Giants to a 9-7-1 record and a postseason appearance in his first year in 2022. He was named NFL Coach of the Year. New York then went 6-11 last year and could be heading for an even worse result this season.

While ownership might be inclined to give Daboll another season, there is always a chance things could change if the losses continue to pile up.
