Browns to interview GM candidate linked to Robert Saleh

Could the start of the Cleveland Browns’ search for a general manager offer some hints to which coaching candidate they’re leaning toward?
The Browns have requested permission to interview Indianapolis Colts assistant GM Ed Dodds, according to multiple reports. Dodds worked in Seattle with current San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, and according to Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com, Dodds would be tied to Saleh as a hire.
Saleh also reportedly gave the Browns several other GM names worth watching.

It may be too soon to draw anything conclusive from the team’s first GM interview, but starting with a Saleh-endorsed candidate certainly can’t reflect poorly on the 49ers defensive coordinator’s chances of landing the job. Saleh was one of the earlier names to be linked to the Cleveland position, but they’ll have to wait until the 49ers are eliminated from the playoffs if they want to hire him. If he is their top target, it would explain why they’re willing to be patient in their search.
