The Detroit Lions are one of the worst teams in the NFL, and predicability has been one of the team’s many issues. Golden Tate recently said that opponents have called out Detroit’s plays on multiple occasions before the Lions ran them. According to Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians, it happened again on Sunday.
In a 7-7 game early in the second quarter, Cardinals defensive line coach Brentson Buckner successfully identified a screen pass when the Lions came to the line of scrimmage.
“Buck called it out from the sidelines, ‘Screen! Screen!’ He saw the formation, saw the guy crossing,” Arians explained, per Justin Rogers of MLive.com. “We still have to catch it.”
Defensive tackle Cory Redding came away with the pick and set the Cardinals up inside the 5-yard line. They took a 14-7 lead and proceeded to blow the doors off the Lions. However, Arians insisted that was the only time his team successfully identified a play before Detroit ran it.
“Just that one and a lot of times, that’s a lucky guess,” he said. “Brentson Buckner hit it on the head that time.”
If you read what Cardinals defensive back Tyrann Mathieu said coming into the game, you know the Lions’ offense is not getting a lot of respect right now. Detroit turned the ball over six times on Sunday, with Matthew Stafford getting benched after throwing three interceptions. The Lions are the only 0-5 team in the NFL.
