Los Angeles Chargers defensive back Jahleel Addae came up with a huge interception in the first half of his team’s game against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, but the play will only be remembered for the way he immediately gave the ball back.
With the Chargers leading 7-0 and the Broncos looking to tie the score, Addae picked off a Case Keenum pass in the end zone. He then wanted to get as much return yardage as possible, so he tried to lateral the ball to a teammate. It did not go well.

If you’re going to lateral the ball after an interception, you had better do it when you’re 100 percent certain of the result or you’re desperate with the game on the line. Neither of those criteria applied to Addae’s inexplicable mistake. That one’s not going to play well in the film room.
