Chargers coach says Kyler Murray was ‘impressive’ in combine interview

Anthony Lynn

There is a strong difference of opinion regarding the way Kyler Murray’s interviews at the NFL Combine went.

Former NFL GM Charley Casserly, now an analyst at NFL Network, made headlines by saying the feedback he received on Murray was some of the worst he’s ever heard on a top QB. That set off a storm of responses, with some agreeing with Casserly and others like Murray’s agent and former coach defending the quarterback.

Now we have one Combine interviewer going on the record. Los Angeles Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn told reporter Jim Trotter that Murray was “impressive” during his interview with the team.

How could there be such variance in opinion? Here is some speculation.

Maybe some people just happen to like Murray while others don’t. Not everyone pleases everyone. Another possibility is that Murray tanked an interview with a team he didn’t want to go to, and that was the team that reached out to Casserly. Or maybe it’s the opposite, and a team liked Murray so much that they’re floating negative information about him to see if they can sway teams to avoid drafting him.

It’s draft time, and these types of matters are part of the process. When teams stand to benefit from negative information, expect to see plenty of it leak.
