Colin Kaepernick laughs off report of fight with Aldon Smith
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and now-former teammate Aldon Smith did not get into a fight during practice last week — at least according to Kaepernick.
On Friday, Kaepernick laughed when reporters asked about a rumor that claimed Smith smashed up the quarterback’s Mercedes in a drunk-driving accident on Thursday night. He also said there was no brawl between the two, which this report claimed started over a girl.
“I don’t drive a Mercedes, let’s put it that way,” Kaepernick said, per Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News.
The media has not witnessed any fights at 49ers training camp, which means the alleged confrontation would have occurred during a morning walk-through that was closed to the media. Or, as veteran wide receiver Anquan Boldin says, the fight didn’t happen at all.
“There was no fight out here,” Boldin said. “I don’t know where that comes from. You all listen to TMZ? Boy.”
It makes sense that the Niners would downplay any beef between Kaepernick and Smith, whether it happened or not. The only thing we know is that there was another incident in which Smith got into trouble with the law. Because of that, it’s unlikely we will see him on the field in 2015.
