San Francisco 49ers head coach Chip Kelly announced Monday that Colin Kaepernick will once again be the team’s starting quarterback in Week 7.
Kelly refused to commit to a starter after the Niners were destroyed by the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, but it wouldn’t make much sense to go back to Blaine Gabbert after just one week of Kaepernick. The only other option on the roster is Christian Ponder.
After getting off to a fast start with a long touchdown pass to Torrey Smith, Kaepernick completed just 13 of 29 passes for 187 yards and a touchdown. He added 66 yards rushing on eight attempts.
The end result was a 45-16 loss, so giving Kaepernick the start obviously didn’t ignite the team. It did, however, ignite the Bills fan base, which was selling some disturbing shirts outside Ralph Wilson Stadium before the game.
Simply put, the 49ers are not a very good team. It probably won’t matter if they go with Gabbert, Kaepernick or Ponder — they don’t have a good chance of winning any time they take the field.
