DeSean Jackson has added a famous former player to his coaching staff at Delaware State.
Delaware State announced on Wednesday that Clinton Portis has been hired as their new running backs coach.
“Hornets Nation Lets (sic) Welcome To Dover Coaching Them RBs,” the school’s Instagram account wrote in a post introducing Portis.

Portis does not have previous coaching experience, but he is well known for his exploits as a player.
Portis, 43, was a star running back at Miami before going on to have success in the NFL. He was with the Hurricanes from 1999-2001 and was a big part of the championship-winning ’01 team that is regarded as one of the most talented college teams in history.
After college, Portis became a second-round pick by the Broncos in the 2002 draft. Portis spent two seasons with Denver. He won AP Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2002 and then was a Pro Bowler in his second season with the team. Portis scored 31 touchdowns over his first two seasons and and rushed for over 1,500 yards in each campaign.
Portis was then traded to the Washington Redskins for Champ Bailey and a second-round pick in what was a massive trade. Portis put together four big seasons over the rest of his Washington career, but he dealt with some injuries and concussions.
Portis rushed for 9,923 yards and 75 touchdowns during his NFL career. He added over 2,000 receiving yards.
The NFL careers of Jackson and Portis overlapped for the final three seasons of Portis’ career when he was with the Redskins and Jackson was beginning his NFL career with the Eagles.
Jackson was named the new head football coach at Delaware State in December. The Hornets are coming off a 1-11 season.
