Report: Dolphins ‘very motivated’ to trade back from No. 13

The Miami Dolphins have frustrated their fans by seemingly committing to a rebuild and not doing everything they can to field their best team in 2019, and that theme could continue when the NFL Draft begins on Thursday night.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports that the Dolphins have their eye on several players with the 13th overall pick, including quarterbacks Dwayne Haskins and Daniel Jones. However, teams they have spoken with leading up to the draft have gotten the impression Miami is “very motivated” to trade down in the first round.

The Dolphins moved on from Ryan Tannehill this offseason and signed Ryan Fitzpatrick, so they clearly have a major long-term need at quarterback. It’s possible they are going to wait to see if the QBs they like most are still available at No. 13, which is not a guarantee if other teams starting trading up.

Remember, new Dolphins head coach Brian Flores is from the Bill Belichick coaching tree, and we all know how much the New England Patriots coach loves trading down. In an offseason where there have been reports that the Dolphins have gone into tank mode, trading down from a spot where they could land one of the 13 best players in the draft probably would not be received well by their fans. They haven’t seemed to care about that over the past several months, so perhaps that trend will continue.
