The New York Giants have reportedly not considered any disciplinary action against Odell Beckham Jr in the wake of his recent on-field outbursts.
According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, the Giants have continued to support Beckham both privately and publicly in recent weeks while the star receiver has dealt with a great deal of criticism. The Giants aren’t pleased that Beckham losing his cool has resulted in 15-yard penalties, but they are said to believe his antics are being “blown out of proportion.”
“We would never bet against this kid,” a team official told La Canfora. “He knows he has our support and we all know what kind of player he is and what kind of person he is. He is not a problem child. He’s a very good kid who has a strong mentality who has made a few mistakes and he knows what he has to work on. All of the noise on this is coming from outside our building; this is not making a lot of noise within it.”
While Beckham recently raised some concern by saying he is not having fun playing football anymore, another source told La Canfora that Beckham’s mindset is “fine” and he is capable of overcoming his shaky start.
Defenders have done a fantastic job of getting under Beckham’s skin this season, and it has cost the Giants. He finally admitted this week that he needs to do a better job of controlling his emotions, and it seems likely that some comments one of his own teammates made had something to do with his change of heart. Beckham will look to silence his critics on the field against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, when the Giants will reportedly look to get him the ball early and often.
