The New York Giants allowed seven sacks on Sunday against a Washington Redskins front that wasn’t known for punishing opposing quarterbacks, and that left at least one of their linemen with a very bad taste in his mouth.
Center Spencer Pulley did not hold back in assessing the line’s performance, calling it “ridiculous” that they played so poorly against a team that came in tied for 24th in the NFL in sacks.
“It’s obviously unacceptable, the protection,” Pulley said, via Zach Braziller of the New York Post. “I don’t think they did a whole lot we weren’t expecting. I don’t know if we weren’t playing well together or individually, or both. We have to watch the film and see, we have to take a hard look at it.
“I didn’t know it was that many. That’s ridiculous. That’s something we can’t allow.”
The pressure likely played a role in Eli Manning’s struggles, not that it salvages the performance or makes Pat Shurmur’s decision-making process any easier. The whole team is a mess at this point, and the offensive line is one of several issues.
