James Jones argues he had best season of any free agent receiver

James Jones is facing free agency again, and he’s already begun to talk himself up a bit in the hopes of finding a nice landing spot.

Jones told SiriusXM NFL Radio on Friday that he would have liked to go back to Green Bay, but with that seeming unlikely, thinks he deserves a long look on the open market.

“I was hoping it would go be back to Green Bay, but I don’t know what’s going to happen,” Jones said, via Conor Orr of NFL Media. “Like I said before, I would love to finish my career as a Green Bay Packer, but we all know this business is extremely crazy so it looks like I’m going to hit the open market again so we’ll see what’s going to happen and hopefully I get a little more action this time.

“I’m hearing a lot of these receivers names being called and people are trying to brush over my name, and I had one of the best seasons out of all these guys that are free agents.”

Jones did, indeed, catch more touchdowns than most of his contemporaries, but that was in Green Bay, where virtually all of his success has been over the course of his career. His one year in Oakland was subpar, though it’s debatable how much of that is his fault. Still, he hasn’t proven that he’s more than a beneficiary of Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay’s offensive system, which could cause some executives to tap the brakes. On the other hand, Green Bay’s offense had some issues of its own this season and Jones still posted solid numbers, so that may warrant consideration.

Maybe if he has his lucky hoodie with him, things will go better wherever he goes.
