Jay Cutler reportedly ‘fuming’ at Bears OC Aaron Kromer

Aaron Kromer Jay Cutler

Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer has expressed regret for anonymously criticizing Jay Cutler, but does Cutler care?

According to Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com, Cutler is still furious over Kromer’s comments and the way the Bears have handled things with the media. La Canfora also wonders if ripping Cutler will get Kromer fired.

While Cutler took the high road when he met with the media Friday, privately he has been fuming at this latest media tempest, and it hard to imagine him working with Kromer beyond the duration of this last season. Furthermore, clauses included in Bears coaching contracts regarding guidelines for dealing with the media could result in a case for Kromer’s termination “for cause,” while Cutler will be watching very closely to see what changes, if any, occur to the staff, with his contract essentially guaranteed through 2015.

La Canfora goes on to say that head coach Marc Trestman’s laid-back style has led to players governing their own locker room and contributed to tension between the players and coaching staff.

Rarely have we ever seen an offensive coordinator speak about a player — especially in the middle of the season — the way Kromer spoke about Cutler. The Bears have dealt with terrible PR like that all season, and even Brandon Marshall has called out his teammates. But where has Trestman been?

During press conferences, Trestman almost always looks under the brim of his hat and hardly makes eye contact with reporters. According to La Canfora, he has been criticized for addressing his team from the back of the room and facing the players’ backs.

Depending how the Bears close out their season, it would be a surprise if a major change is not made in 2015. Kromer, Cutler and Trestman can’t possibly coexist next year.
