Jessie James Decker says husband Eric was not consulted before anthem protest
The Tennessee Titans were one of three NFL teams on Sunday to not take the field for the national anthem, but apparently they did not ask all of their players for their opinion before making the political statement.
In a lengthy Instagram post Monday morning, Decker’s wife Jessie James — a country singer — wrote about how much she loves singing the national anthem and what the song means to her.
When one of James’ followers pointed out that her husband took part in an anthem protest, she revealed that Eric was not asked for his opinion on the subject and was unaware of the plan until the last second.
“My husband was not made aware it was time to go out for the game,” James said. “Unfortunately a decision was made for him without him knowing.”
As TMZ noted, Decker was one of the many people who commented on his wife’s Instagram post when he wrote “Preach baby.”
The Titans said in a statement that their players decided as a group to remain in the locker room during the national anthem.
“As a team, we wanted to be unified in our actions today. The players jointly decided this was the best course of action,” the statement read. “Our commitment to the military and our community is resolute and the absence of our team for the national anthem shouldn’t be misconstrued as unpatriotic.”
Jessie James Decker is known for having a great sense of humor, which she often puts on display with borderline inappropriate comments about her husband. This was obviously a topic that was far more serious for the couple.
