The New York Jets have made another significant change in the wake of their latest loss.
Joe Douglas was informed on Tuesday that he has been fired as general manager of the Jets, according to multiple reports. Douglas was in the final year of his contract and unlikely to receive an extension, but Jets owner Woody Johnson chose to part ways with the executive now.
Joe Douglas was considered unlikely to return to the #Jets for 2025, so it was a matter of when — not if. Woody Johnson chose now.

Douglas, 48, was hired as GM of the Jets in 2019. He had previously been the vice president of player personnel for the Philadelphia Eagles from 2016-2019. Douglas was with the Eagles when they won Super Bowl LII in 2017. He began his NFL career as a scout with the Baltimore Ravens from 2000-2014 and won two Super Bowls with them as well.
The Jets have gone 30-64 since Douglas took over as GM. New York did not make a postseason appearance during his tenure and has not been to the playoffs since 2010.
One of Douglas’ biggest moves with the Jets was drafting Zach Wilson with the No. 2 overall pick in 2021, which did not work out. Douglas then played a role in bringing Aaron Rodgers to New York, and a brutal stat that went viral this week shows how much of a disaster that has been as well.
Douglas’ best draft was when the Jets landed Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson, Jermaine Johnson and Breece Hall with their first four picks in 2022. Still, none of that has led to overall success for the team, which is why both Douglas and former head coach Robert Saleh have been fired.
The Jets fell to 3-8 with a disappointing home loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.
