Kirk Cousins says he has ‘very good relationship’ with RG3

Many would figure that the relationship between Kirk Cousins and Robert Griffin III would be an uncomfortable one, but Cousins says that is not the case.

Cousins did a Reddit AMA (“Ask Me Anything”) on Thursday, and the Washington Redskins quarterback was asked about his relationship with RG3. He was asked whether they would remain in touch if Griffin leaves the team, as many expect Griffin to do.

“That’s a great question. We have a very good relationship and it’s been that way since day 1,” Cousins wrote. “I remember the first day we met, after the draft, getting to the hotel for rookie mini-camp and he was helping me with some cut-ups on his laptop, showing me plays and that kind of helped and our working relationship continued all the through for four years. Up until the very last week against the Packers, as we worked together to win that game.

“Things change from year to year and I have no idea what’s going to happen to my future or with Roberts, but I know he will be successful with whatever he does. He’s very intelligent and a hard-worker and those two things carry you pretty far.”

Griffin probably didn’t mind being friendly with Cousins at first because RG3 was the No. 2 overall pick in the draft and undisputed franchise quarterback, while Cousins was a fourth-round pick and sure backup. Things changed drastically in 2015 as Cousins became the team’s starting quarterback and led the squad to the playoffs. Pretty soon, Cousins could sign an extension that would make him the franchise quarterback.

Cousins’ comments are also surprising given the report from September saying the two quarterbacks refused to speak with each other.
