Lamar Jackson loses touchdown on fumble replay overturned

Lamar Jackson goal line

Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens lost a touchdown late in the second quarter of their game against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday after a play was overturned on a replay review.

Baltimore was leading 20-7 and had a third-and-goal at the 1 with just under two minutes left before the half. Jackson dived over the pile and reached out with his arms to try and break the plane of the end zone. The initial call on the field was a touchdown.

However, all scoring plays are reviewed, and the referees determined that Jackson pulled his arms back before the ball broke the plane.

Here’s how far Jackson got before he pulled back his arms:

Browns defenders swatted the ball out of Jackson’s hands as he was retracting and recovered the fumble. Cleveland got some bad luck as the referees blew the whistle to stop the play even though it should have been a live ball and potential fumble return for a touchdown. Cleveland was then awarded the ball at the spot of the fumble recovery, still trailing 20-7.
