Malcolm Jenkins thinks police may be making example of Michael Bennett

Malcolm Jenkins suspects that police may be making an example of Michael Bennett.

Jenkins, a defensive leader for the Philadelphia Eagles, spoke to reporters at the team’s facility on Tuesday and was asked about Bennett’s latest legal issue.

“From the outside looking in, not necessarily knowing all the details, but just kind of using common sense, it seems like they’re trying to make an example out of him,” Jenkins said of Bennett, via Philly.com’s Les Bowen. “But hopefully, those things will work out in his favor. He’s a guy that, I was excited when we [traded for him]. Still looking forward to him being a part of this team, being part of this community, because I think he’s somebody that cares. Somebody that works hard, obviously, he’s a great athlete, but a great human being as well.”

Bennett was acquired by the Eagles in a trade with the Seahawks last month. Shortly thereafter, the defensive lineman was indicted on a felony charge in Texas for allegedly injuring a 66-year-old paraplegic while attending the Super Bowl last year to watch his brother’s Patriots.

Like Jenkins, Bennett is active when it comes to social matters, which is partly what led the Seahawks to trade him. He has participated in national anthem protests during the past and also accused Las Vegas police of racially profiling him. He recently published a book about social matters called “Things That Make White People Uncomfortable.”
