The NFL will once again look into the possibility of banning the so-called “tush push” play this offseason, and a recent report claimed Roger Goodell is in favor of removing it from the game. The league says that is not the case.
NFL executive Jeff Miller confirmed on Thursday that the league’s Competition Committee will examine the “tush push” further in the coming months. However, Miller says Goodell has not taken a position on the play.

Again, no matter what, no changes to rules in this 2023 season.

The Philadelphia Eagles have been virtually unstoppable with the “tush push” in short yardage situations, which is why the play is known to many as the “Brotherly Shove.” Critics of the play believe it is more like a rugby scrum than a football play. There have also been some possible safety concerns raised.
Jalen Hurts and the Eagles have mastered the “tush push.” Other teams have tried to utilize it, but they have had significantly less success. The Eagles have made it clear that they take great pride in that.
If the NFL does ban the “tush push,” it will certainly seem like the change was made just to stop the Eagles.
