Jets WR Saalim Hakim challenged Brandon Marshall to race for No. 15
If Brandon Marshall wants to keep his jersey number with the New York Jets, he will need to convince third-year wide receiver Saalim Hakim to give up his No. 15. And Hakim apparently plans to make Marshall earn it.
Earlier this week, Hakim posted a video on Instagram challenging Marshall to a 40-yard dash competition with the winner taking home jersey No. 15. The former undrafted free agent has since deleted the video, but Darryl Slater of NJ.com transcribed what he said.
“So Brandon Marshall is trying to get my number,” Hakim said in the video. “I told him: If he beats me in the 40-yard dash, he can get the number. But if I beat him, he’s got to give me $25,000 — and he can have the number.”
Marshall may be an All-Pro wide receiver, but Hakim is a speedy special teamer who could almost certainly beat him in a foot race. Perhaps they have agreed to some other arrangement.
Over the years, we have seen everything from autographed memorabilia to massive amounts of money exchanged when one player comes to a new team and wants to keep his number. If it’s cash Hakim is looking for, Marshall can certainly afford it.
